Donaueschinger Musiktage 2026, Germany

Inspired by the Percy Grainger Museum in Melbourne, Steven Kazuo Takasugi brings to the stage Grainger's passion for collecting curiosities. Museum Factory pushes in one direction toward visual art through sculptures-as-instruments, and in another direction toward the factory where sounds are hammered out. To this end, Takasugi makes use of thousands of instrumental samples from the Grainger Museum's collection as well as from the members of Speak Percussion, who are making their debut at the Musiktage. The work could be alternatively entitled Dying Factory: the ironic moans and groans of an edifice facing extinction in the age of automation.
